People don’t understand the need for a Democratic Republic. They don’t even understand why we have it. John Adams said, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” His point was that the majority should NOT rule, as in a democracy, because mob rule could allow for truly evil things.
Think if the KKK became the majority, or the black panther party, and they could vote to re-institute slavery in America because “the majority rules”. No, we were designed as a Democratic Republic so that we would have a say in electing A MORALLY BOUND ELECTORATE that would then choose our leader BASED ON THEIR CONSCIENCE, not necessarily upon the will of the people.
Our founding fathers did not want a true Republic like Rome because they feared corruption, and they did not want a true Democracy because they feared mob rule, so they chose a compromise, a Democratic Republic. Then, they put a separation of powers and checks and balances into our new government with the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial branches of government. The problem in this day is NOT the process of voting (Popular vs. Electoral), but the problem is that we no longer are a “moral and religious people” who put people with a conscience into the position of the electoral college and who elect that kind of Representatives.
If we want a moral change, if we want a change of values in our country, if we want to fix the progressively left lean of our government into taxation without representation; then, we must replace our elected representatives with those who have a moral compass and a backbone to fight for truth and justice.
